Cardamom up on retailers demand

NEW DELHI: Cardamom prices edged up to Rs 5-15 per kg in the national capital on Saturday on the back of buying by retailers and stockists to meet festive season demand. Tight arrivals from southern region of Kerala also influenced the trading sentiment. Cardamom small varieties such as chitridar, colour robin, bold and extra bold increased upto Rs 15 to Rs 480-550, Rs 555-565, Rs 570-585 and Rs 640-660 per kg respectively. Marketmen said, restricted arrivals from southern regions of kerala amid fresh buying by stockists due to festive season mainly pushed up cardamom prices. Following were today's quotations (in Rs per quintal): Ajwain 5,700-8,500 Black pepper common 15,300-15,400 Betelnut (kg) 95-105, cardamom brown (Jhundiwali)15,500-15,600 and cardamom brown (Kanchicut) 17,500-20,500. Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 480-550, cardamom (colour robin) 555-5655, cardamom bold 570-585, cardamom extra (bold) 640-660 and cloves (kg) 290-330. -ET
