Rice mills warned of severe action

Rajahmundry: DIG of Vigilance and Enforcement M. Balasubrahmanyam on Friday said that Rs. 197 crore worth rice, raw rice, broken rice and boiled rice was seized during raids conducted on 18 mills in six districts.
The stocks seized in East Godavari district were the highest (Rs. 63.27 crores), most of which was recovered from Kalyani Modern Rice Mill at Mandapeta , Sri Venkateswara Rice Industries, Sri Muralikrishna Traders of Pedapalli in Alamuru mandal and Murali Mohan Boiled and Raw Rice Mill of Komaripalem in Bikkavolu mandal.
He said that in Miryalaguda in Nalgonda district, vigilance officials raided seven mills. The officials seized rice worth Rs.52.92 crores from Mahendra Rice Mill, which is exporting the stock to Mumbai via Hyderabad. The DIG said that the stocks were kept after purchasing from farmers and without giving specified levy of 75 per cent to the government. He said that as per GO 30, the mills had to procure Food Grain Licence (FGL) within 15 days from August 8 to enable them to stock 4,000 quintals of rice or the quantity the mill can store for one week. Mr. Balasubrahmanyam warned that mills which do not procure FGL or sell fine quality rice at Rs. 18 to the public through their outlets would be punished under the Civil Supplies Act. Superfine rice
The DIG stated that they would continue the raids in all districts to ensure sale of superfine rice in the open market for Rs.18 instead of Rs.30. SP G. Umapathy was present.
